HISTORY

ACCESS (Allying Companies, Communities and Employees with Skills for Success) is an annual conference; job fair, resource and technology expo that has been held in the Seattle area since 1994. ACCESS focuses specifically on the employment of people with disabilities in partnership with area businesses who recognize the talent of this untapped labor force and customer base. The event is held in a barrier free environment with access and accommodations being provided by the event sponsors. The bottom line is meeting the employment needs of area business though the hiring of qualified employees with disabilities!

ACCESS began and continues to operate as a consortium of people with disabilities, employers and representatives from various service organizations. The ACCESS Foundation has been established as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization managed by a Board of Directors which is comprised of a majority of people with disabilities. Members of the ACCESS Board and the working committee that organize the event, all volunteer their time toward the success of ACCESS.

In our 14th year, the core components of ACCESS 2007 will continue to include: the job fair, educational sessions for job seekers, a resource and technology expo. All of these components have been developed based on the evaluation and feedback from previous ACCESS events. We are very excited this year to once again partner with the DO-IT program at the University of Washington in hosting Junior and Senior High school students with disabilities. These students will attend career development sessions and be seeking summer employment and internship opportunities at the job fair.

ACCESS has changed and grown since 1994. In 2007 we have moved the event to March. This was based on the feedback from our customers --- job seekers who were interested in accessing employment opportunities and businesses who want access to qualified applicants to meet their employment needs. In the past we had hosted the event in October to coincide with National Disability Employment Awareness Month. While we still support this important month of recognition and the events that occur during that month, our business partners told us that the last quarter of the year was the slowest time of the year for hiring. They suggested moving the event to the first quarter of the year and as a customer driven organization we responded to their request!

See you on March 7th! ACCESS 2007: Ready, Set, Go!
